Geneva-on-the-Lake Ferris Wheel: 2026 Closure & History

Historical illustration of the Old Firehouse Winery Ferris wheel before the 2026 storm damage

The Old Firehouse Winery Ferris wheel is listed closed for the 2026 season. Do not plan a visit around riding it. The winery’s current page carries a closure notice, and local reporting documents severe storm damage in June 2026.

What happened in 2026?

Cleveland 19 reported on June 15, 2026 that high winds during the previous afternoon’s storm toppled the wheel. The report said no injuries were reported.

The winery’s Ferris wheel page states that it is closed for the 2026 season for construction. Older ride hours and ticket information still appear farther down that page; they should not be treated as overriding the closure notice.

The historic Erieview Park wheel

The winery identifies the attraction as a #5 Big Eli built in 1956, originally purchased for Erieview Park. It was later rebuilt and relocated to the winery’s lakefront grounds. Its colorful open seats and Lake Erie backdrop made it a familiar local landmark.

Will it reopen?

As of September 10, 2026, we have not verified a reopening date. Check the winery’s current announcements before making plans. A seasonal guide printed before the storm may still describe a working wheel, but that does not establish present availability.
