Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO)2016 Report

Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO)2016 Report

A Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) is an overflow, spill, release, or diversion of wastewater from a sanitary sewer system.  All SSOs are prohibited.

The OEPA requires us to report  these, including an annual report made available for public inspection.  Included in this information is a listing of Water In Basement (WIB) events, which is when sewage backs up into a home.  OEPA makes a distinction between these happenings based on whether it is caused by a problem in the publically-owned collection system or whether the blockage occurred in the homeowner’s lateral.  A lateral is the pipe that carries waste from your building to the fitting on the public main.  Only those WIBs caused by the former are required to be reported.

If there are any questions, please contact the Geneva Wastewater Treatment Plant at (440) 466-4228, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or leave a voice mail and we will reply to you.
