Housing Assistance Program – CHIP

The City of Geneva recently received a $400,000 Community Housing Improvement Program (CHIP) grant from the Ohio Department of Development. The grant provides for five (5) basic housing activities: $196,500 for Homeowner Rehabilitation on a city-wide basis $80,000 for Home Repair on a city-wide basis; $30,500 Private Rental Rehabilitation on a city-wide basis; $35,000 for Down payment/Rehabilitation Assistance and $10,000 for Emergency Monthly Housing Assistance.

The City has targeted $100,000 of the activity funds to Census Tract 000800 which is located East of Broadway (Route 534). The balance of the grant provides for fair housing and administration. The grant must be completed by October 31, 2015.

All participants must meet the eligibility requirements, and be within the income guidelines for the program.

Applications are available at the City Manager’s office starting on October 3, 2013. Geneva City Hall,  44 N. Forest Street, Geneva, Ohio or can be downloaded from the link below.

Home Energy Assistance Program – HEAP

The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is a federally funded program administered by the Ohio Department of Development’s Office of Community Assistance (OCA). It is designed to help eligible low-income Ohioans meet the high costs of home heating.

Percentage of Income Payment Plan Plus – Ohio PIPP Plus

Under PIPP Plus, if you heat with gas, you pay 6 percent of your monthly household income to your gas company and 6 percent to your electric company. If you heat with electricity, you pay 10 percent of your monthly household income. The Community Action Agency or utility company will inform you of your PIPP Plus installment. Once you are enrolled in the program, you must pay your installment every month in full and on time.
